Requirements
Orientation
All students must complete orientation prior to participation at the University School for Young Children. Orientation is held the Friday prior to the first week of school from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
State Registration
Prior to attendance at the University School for Young Children, you must complete a Child-Care and Elder-Care Worker Registration form and submit it to the Missouri Department of Health so a background check may be performed. Students may not attend the CCS lab until this step has been taken.
First Aid and Infant/Child CPR Certification
All practicum students and student employees are expected to complete training in Pediatric First Aid and Infant/Child CPR. You will be informed of available training opportunities. Students must present documentation of certification to the CCS office.
Medical Examination and TB Test
The state of Missouri requires that every person working in a child care setting with children have a medical examination and annual TB test. These must be completed prior to the first week of the semester.
Transcripts
Students must submit a current transcript to the CCS office each semester they work or participate in a practicum at the University School for Young Children.
Attendance Policy
We depend on our students to be here and must arrange for a substitute if they are not. Be punctual and remain at the School for your entire scheduled block of time. Please do not schedule appointments during your lab or work time.
Absences are allowed only for illness or emergencies. If you are going to be absent, leave a message with the administrative assistant at (573) 290-5135. Do not leave e-mails as they may not be checked prior to your scheduled time. Call the School (573) 290-5135 by 7:30 a.m., when you are ill or prior to your scheduled time if you are going to be five or more minutes late. This is extremely important. Failure to call in ahead of a scheduled laboratory time will result in an unexcused absence. Unexcused absences may not be made up and will result in grade reductions.
If you have missed a scheduled practicum, you must make arrangements to make up the missed time. It is your responsibility to contact your supervising teacher within one week to arrange a make-up time, or the absence will be considered unexcused.
Parking
When students drive to the University School for Young Children, they may not park in the parking lot designated for parents. Talk to the operations supervisor or your lead teacher about acceptable places to park.
