“I tell students to take advantage of every opportunity that arises. Make every moment count. What may seem insignificant to one person can mean the world to another person. Build relationships that will last a lifetime. Spending time with people is one of the best investments a person can make.”
This is Alicia Horn’s advice to future Southeast students. A senior dietetics major from Arnold, Mo., who recently completed an internship at Harvard University, Alicia says her experience at Southeast has helped her grow in a number of ways.
“Southeast has allowed me to develop character, which will benefit me in my personal and professional career. The professors show that they believe in me, and their faith allows me to persevere in my academic career,” she says. Their guidance allowed me to be successful in a Harvard internship.”
Alicia also is a newly-inducted member of the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, volunteers with the Student Dietetic Association and is a lab assistant with Dr. Georgianne Syler, a position that involves marketing and maintaining the program’s kitchen. After her graduation from Southeast in May 2005, she plans to begin an internship in dietetics that will last through the 2005-2006 school year.
Alicia is a busy young woman with a very exciting college journey behind her and an exciting career path before her. One may wonder how she manages to do so much and accomplish such a great deal.
“I thrive on challenges,” she says, “and I look for new adventures. I put my complete trust and faith in God in every aspect of my life.”
