Amanda Trautman has been a radio fan of NASCAR racing for nearly as long as she can remember.
“When the opportunity for an internship came about, I immediately applied for the position,” she said. “I had no idea that it would lead to the job of my dreams.”
Amanda, a communication major with emphasis in radio from Ste. Genevieve, Mo., interned recently with Motor Racing Network, a nationally syndicated radio network in Daytona Beach, Fla. She was responsible for producing NASCAR racing shows for radio stations across the nation.
Her daily responsibilities included “feeding out” programming via satellite, digitizing the network’s archives and making sure the network’s affiliates received programming. In addition, Amanda also produced some shows.
“Producing shows as an intern is very unusual,” she said. “However, my employers trusted me, and, in turn, hired me as a full-time employee.”
Amanda says the most memorable part of the internship was the opportunity to work “in-field” (within the race track) during the annual Pepsi 400.
“As a fan of the sport, I was thrilled to have the opportunity to help assist with the production of the annual Pepsi 400, a huge NASCAR racing event during the Fourth of July in Daytona Beach, Fla.,” she said.
After completing her internship, Amanda was hired as a full-time employee for Motor Racing Network in Daytona Beach.
