Student Recreation Center Policies and Procedures
Southeast Missouri State University's Student Recreation Center is a 90,000 square-foot facility open to students, faculty and staff. The building consists of five multi-purpose courts, a four lane track, six racquetball courts, a climbing wall, weight room and cardio vascular equipment. Please read our policies and procedures to insure a positive experience for all participants.
Daily Guest Pass
A new “Daily Pass” Policy for the Student Recreation Centers went into effect August 1, 2007:
- Patrons (students or members) do not have access to three free guest passes during the year
- Guest passes are $5/person per visit. There will be an unlimited number that can come in under (with) a member, as long as they each pay the required $5 fee.
- All guests are required to leave a photo ID at the desk while using the facility and must complete a “Daily Pass Registration Form” available at the Operation Center in each facility.
- Any non-member may “self-sponsor” themselves with the required guest fee and proper identification left at the Operation Center.
- Parents/legal guardians are required to register children age 17 and younger (not in effect for special events)
Identification Card Requirements
It is required that Southeast students and faculty/staff prove their status by presenting a valid Southeast identification card to secure services at the Student Recreation Center and other recreational facilities. Any identification cards issued without a photo must be accompanied by a photo identification card.
Towels, Lockers & Equipment
Towel and locker service and recreational sports equipment are available for check-out at the Operation Center. To obtain these services, the member must present their ID. The ID will be retained at the Operation Center in exchange for the equipment until all equipment checked out is returned. Should items be lost, stolen, or damaged, the member or parent/legal guardian will be charged for replacement of the equipment. Some equipment such as portable volleyball net sets and racquetball/tennis rackets require a small rental fee. Racquetballs can be purchased at the Operation Center.
Smoking Policy
All of the Southeast recreational facilities are non-smoking, no tobacco facilities.
Food & Drink
Food and drink are allowed in the lobby area only unless approved for special occasions.
Accidents & Injuries
Participation in programs and services offered by Recreation Services is voluntary; individuals assume responsibility for their own safety and health. Individuals who intend to participate in vigorous activities should, for their own protection, have a physical examination to determine if they are physically able to participate. Medical insurance, which would cover expenses incurred by an injury, is strongly recommended.
Campus Visitors
It is the policy of Recreation Services to enable University Departmental visitors to use all recreational facilities during their stay on campus. Departments, institutes, or other campus-sponsored conferences may purchase daily guest passes on an individual basis. There are two ways to do this:
Department may send a list of attendees (of a meeting/course they are sponsoring) to the Recreation Services Office at the SRC. The list will be posted at the Operations Center where a campus visitor whose name appears on the list may purchase a daily guest pass. A photo ID is required.
Departments who wish to pay for their attendees’ recreation privileges may send a list to the Recreation Services Office at the SRC. Daily guest passes will be issued for each guest for the period specified by the Department. The Department must then provide a voucher for the total amount due for the passes at the time the passes are issued.
Family Hour Policy
Family Hour times begin every weekend at 5 p.m. Friday and end at 5 p.m. on Sunday. Family Hour times are also during special holiday break periods and the summer.
Children ages 4 – 15 are allowed in the facilities only during Family Hours.
At least one parent/legal guardian must purchase an SRC membership, accompany and physically supervise the child at all times in all activity areas during Family Hours.
Dependents ages 4 – 15 are not allowed in the Weight Room or on the Cardio equipment.
Parent/legal guardian must check out equipment on behalf of the child.
Child may not sponsor guests.
Spouses and dependents ages 16 and over must purchase a $5 daily guest pass or purchase a membership for admittance.
Dependents ages 0-3 are not allowed in the building except supervised in the lobby at all times.
Drop-In Group Court Policy
Groups of 6 or more students or members who are not affiliated with a student organization or athletics can occupy court space for activities other than basketball if all of the following occur:
- Group has at least six people
- No one is currently using the court
- At least one court is open for basketball
- If anyone wants to play basketball and your group has begun playing, after one hour, your space is lost. Groups will be notified if this is the case by the facility supervisor and ending time will be verbally stated to the group.
If groups would like the court after 9 PM, the opportunity to formally reserve is available (ex. volleyball and indoor soccer). Groups of 6 or more can call (573) 651-2147 to request space. Decision will be made based upon reserved court space available. Reservations are taken for the day desired only and must be made before 3 p.m.
Student Organizations and Athletic Groups must schedule space with Mike Buck (573) 651-2582 at all times.
