How do I apply to the Southeast Missouri State University’s Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) Program?

• Complete and submit application to the University School of Graduate Studies.
• Complete and submit application to the MSN program.

Are there application deadlines?
Yes. They are noted in the current online Graduate Bulletin. Seat availability is limited; therefore, you could apply by the deadline date and not be accepted into the program.

Is there an application fee?
There is a $25 fee to apply to the School of Graduate Studies. There is no fee to apply to the MSN program.

Do I need to take the Graduate Record Exam (GRE)?
No

Do I need to provide letters of reference?
No

If I am a student with a bachelor’s degree from a college/ university outside the U.S., are there other requirements for admission in addition to the GRE?
International students requesting admittance to the MSN program must follow the standards required by the School of Graduate Studies. Evidence of a current Missouri Registered Nurse License as well as completion of a baccalaureate degree in nursing is required for admittance to the MSN program.

What constitutes an official college/university transcript? Do I need to provide one from each college/university/nursing school I have attended?
An official transcript is a sealed document sent directly from the college/university to the School of Graduate Studies (MS4400, One University Plaza, Cape Girardeau MO 63701).

You do need to provide one from each school you have attended.

Must I send a transcript if I graduated from Southeast Missouri State University?
No

I am a registered nurse with an Associate Degree in Nursing or a Diploma in nursing with an earned bachelor’s degree in another major from an accredited college/university. Am I eligible to apply for the MSN Program?
No. Applicants must have completed a baccalaureate degree from an accredited (NLN or CCNE) nursing program.

Is there a specified format for my personal statement describing career goals, future plans for employment and expectations for graduate study?
There is no required format. However, this statement is very important. It should demonstrate mastery of language, grammar and syntax at a post-baccalaureate level. In addition, the text should speak eloquently but concisely to your goals, future plans for employment and expectations for graduate study.

Is admission competitive?
Yes. There is a limited number of seats per annual admissions. Twelve students are admitted into the Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) option each fall.

What is a Criminal Record Check?
A criminal background check shows evidence of misdemeanor and/or felony offenses. Conviction/disciplinary action may result in denial of admission to the program or dismissal from the program.

How do I know if all of my application materials have been received?
The School of Graduate Studies will inform you about the status of received materials. They can be reached at (573) 651-2062. Contact the director of graduate studies in the Department of Nursing regarding the status of your MSN application (573) 651-2871.

When and how should I expect to learn about my admission status?
For Fall 2011 Amissions, applictions will be reviewed immediately after the August 1st deadline. Only completed applications received by the August 1st deadline will be reviewed at that time. You will receive written notification of Admission decision from the School of Graduate Studies and the Department of Nursing as soon as possible after the August 1st deadline.
