Worldwide Human Resource Organization Recognizes Southeast’s Human Resource Management Option

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., Jan. 28, 2011 -- The Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM) now officially recognizes Southeast Missouri State University’s human resource management option.

Southeast was notified earlier this month that its redesigned human resource management option now aligns with SHRM’s Curriculum Guidelines. Southeast’s human resource management option is now the only program among Missouri’s public universities to have achieved this designation.

Faculty in Southeast’s Donald L. Harrison College of Business recently revised the human resource management curriculum in the context of a comprehensive review of the management major.

Southeast’s program is now officially recognized on SHRM’s website at http://www.shrm.org/Education/hreducation/Pages/default.aspx. The website includes a list of institutions whose curricula are aligned with the guidelines of SHRM. The guidelines developed by SHRM are to provide colleges and universities a resource for tracking human resource curricula against a common, minimum skill set needed by employers who seek to fill human resource professional positions.

“This is great for our program,” said Heather McMillan, Southeast assistant professor of management. “It recognizes the quality of the education we provide and shows that our program competes with those offered by some big-name schools, including Auburn, BYU, Arkansas, Tennessee, North Carolina and the California State University system.”
