Dr. Joel Bolton joined the faculty in 2010 as an Assistant Professor of Management in the Department of Management and Marketing in the Donald L. Harrison College of Business at Southeast Missouri State University. He earned his PhD in Business Administration at Oklahoma State University, his MBA at Sam Houston State University, and his BA in Speech Communication with a minor in Economics at Texas A&M University.

Dr. Bolton brings a solid mix of corporate and academic experience. Before leaving the corporate world to pursue his doctorate, he spent 6 years working for multi-billion dollar technology and healthcare firms. He has a wide variety of functional experience including business planning, supply chain management, human resource management, marketing, and direct sales. He enjoys leveraging this experience in his teaching and research activities.

In the classroom, Dr. Bolton’s teaching interests include entrepreneurship, human resource management, and strategy. His research interests could best be called “strategic HR” which explores issues such as board experience, strategic change, CEO stability, and director selection and compensation, but any truly interesting research question will likely grab his interest. Dr. Bolton’s research has been published in the Journal of Management Studies, and he has been invited to present several of his research projects at conferences sponsored by the Academy of Management, the Southern Management Association, and the Society of Industrial and Organizational Psychologists. Dr. Bolton is also active in several professional organizations.
