Curricular Activities
In the Industrial and Safety Management option, students will learn:
- Production planning and control, using an enterprise resource planning software package: SAP R/3.
- Applications of management and organizational leadership and quantitative analysis of industrial and business problems.
- Application of scientific techniques for quality control, assurance, and management of production processes.
- FactoryCAD software for design and layout of production and manufacturing facilities for optimal work flow and ergonomics, using concepts of lean manufacturing.
- The use of computers and computational tools involving complex industrial problems.
- Students will make extensive use of state-of-the-art computers and software such as SolidWorks, RS Linx, RS Logix 5, RS View 32, Panel Builder 32, PCDMIS, and Automation Studio.
- Three different families of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) including: PLC-5, SLC 500, and Micrologix as well as human-machine interface such as Panelview and RS View.
- Print reading and basic board/computer-aided drafting and design with Auto CAD.
- Theoretical and experimental concepts and use of test equipment in the area of industrial electronics.
- Utilizing manual and computer-aided manufacturing equipment including
- Manual and CNC Bridgeport mills and lathes
- EDM machine
- Plastics processing and testing
- Metal arc and ultrasonic welding
- Casting and sandblasting
- Manual manufacturing tools
- Break and sheer for sheet metal torching.
- Materials testing using destructive and nondestructive test equipment.
- Demonstrate and perform supervisory tasks required of personnel in manufacturing industries for maximizing production efficiencies regarding time, materials, machine, and human resources availability.
- Develop and perform structured problem solving techniques and be able to utilize principles of consensus in the decision making process.
- Develop and demonstrate a work ethic consistent with industrial management practices and procedures.
- Recognize, understand, and utilize human resource management skills such as communication, motivation, team work, cooperation, and the like.
- Assess and develop production strategy based on the manufacturing process.
