Dr. Stokes is a native of Utah. He received his bachelor's degree in Sociology from Utah State University, his Master's degree in Social Work from the University of Utah, and his PhD. in Social Work at the University of Illinois - Champaign/Urbana.
Stokes has taught most of the courses in the baccalaureate social work curriculum. Most often he teaches Introduction to Social Work, Helping Skills for the Human Services, Understanding Social and Cultural Diversity and Service and Community. His social work practice background includes casework and administration in child welfare and private practice with families, couples and individuals. He has conducted workshops on personal growth, parenting, stepfamily relationships and effective communication.
Stokes joined the faculty in 1987. He has been a social work educator since 1973 which included experience as a program coordinator.
