I received my B.A. from Ouachita Baptist University in 2010, having majored in history and minored in English literature. While growing up in Cincinnati, Ohio, I became fascinated by the area's Underground Railroad and abolition involvement during the 19th century. As a result, my focus is African American history, specifically 19th century abolitionism. I hope to eventually earn a Ph.D. in African American history and teach at the college level.
As a teaching assistant and trained musician, I am working on incorporating popular music pertaining to the subject matter into each of my classes, as a way to help engage students more fully in the study of history, and help them see how popular music reflects what is going on politically and socially in the world.
