Why Should I Study Nutrition and Exercise Science at Southeast?

The Nutrition and Exercise Science program at Southeast is a truly interdisciplinary degree program. The core courses include a mixture of both Nutrition and Exercise Science courses offered in a synergistic fashion to enhance students' learning of key concepts and skills. The program is geared toward clinical applications of the knowledge and skills gained, however, many graduates have gone on to careers in non-clinical settings.

Admission Requirements

Admission to the Master of Science in Nutrition and Exercise Science is a two-step process. Students must first be accepted into the School of Graduate Studies before being accepted into the program.. For more information, please consult the Graduate Bulletin.

Real-World Experience

Throughout the program students are exposed to experiential learning opportunities through the courses. These include nutrition counseling opportunities at health fairs and wellness screenings, laboratory experiences in exercise testing, and electrocardiograph interpretation.

Facilities

Students will benefit from the Exercise Physiology Laboratory located in the Student Recreation Center. The 1,400-square-foot laboratory is fully equipped with state-of-the-art technology, including metabolic measurement systems, 12-lead EKG, treadmills, Monark leg ergo meters, a cycling simulator, lactate analyzers, and a collection of body composition measurement devices. The laboratory is used as a classroom for exercise testing courses and for exercise physiology laboratory sections. Students and faculty also use the lab for data collection for various research projects, and have made numerous presentations and publications based on this research over the past several years. Students have access to the food laboratories located in Dearmont Hall, allowing for acquisition of skills in food selection and preparation.
