MINUTES OF THE FACULTY SENATE MEETING

April 30, 2003

The Faculty Senate of Southeast Missouri State University met on Wednesday,
April 30, 2003, in the Party Room of the University Center.  The following Senators were present:  Althaus, Anderson, Bibb, Curtis, Dunavan, Farris, Hathaway, Heitman, Jackson, Kraemer, Lloyd, Marietta, Milde, Mims, Naugler, Pitts, Roberts, Swartwout, Tibbs, Tikoo, Underberg, Venezian, Willingham, and Zou. Alternates Elder, Journet, and Paikeday also attended the meeting.  Absent, and not represented by their Alternates, were Senators Hayward and Loso.

INTRODUCTION OF NEW SENATORS

Chair Venezian introduced and welcomed Senator David Bibb from the Kent Library.  He also introduced Alternate Paikeday from the Physics Department.

ELECTION OF CHAIR ELECT

Chair Venezian requested nominations for the position of Chair-Elect.  Senator Roberts nominated Senator Tikoo, Alternate Journet nominated Senator Naugler, and Senator Curtis nominated Senator Swartwout.  Senator Farris moved that the nominations cease, and Senator Lloyd seconded the motion.  Each candidate briefly described his/her goals for the Senate.  After two ballots, Senator Swartwout was elected as the Chair Elect.

ELECTION OF MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE

Ballots were distributed for election of Senators to serve on the Membership Committee.  The election results were as follows:

  Cheryl Milde  College of Education
  Arrick Jackson College of Health & Human Services
  David Bibb  Kent Library
  Rusty Curtis  College of Liberal Arts
  Bruce Hathaway College of Science & Mathematics
  Ted Loso  School of Polytechnic Studies

The meeting was adjourned at 5:15 p.m.

The next meeting of the Faculty Senate will be Wednesday, May 14, at 3:00 p.m. in the Missouriana Room of the University Center.
