MINUTES OF THE FACULTY SENATE MEETING

April 28, 2004

The Faculty Senate of Southeast Missouri State University met on Wednesday, April 28, 2004, in the Missouriana Room of the University Center.  The following Senators were present:  Paul Lloyd (presiding), Susan Swartwout, Rick Althaus, David Baird, Janice Chadha, James Champine, Ronald Clayton, Michael Cobb, Dan Dunavan, Bruce Hathaway, Linda Heitman, Arrick Jackson, Dan MacLeay, Bruce Mims, David Naugler, David Smith, Bonnie Stepenoff, Mohan Tikoo, and Min Zou.  Alternates Michele Brune, Rickard Sebby and Senate Secretary Paula Cunningham were also present.

Student Government President Dane Huxel, Vice President Rebecca Langan, Treasurer Tim Eagan, and Student Government Representative to the Faculty Senate Heather Valle also attended.

Absent, and not represented by their Alternates, were Mary Ann DeLine, Kathy Gilliland, Cheryl Milde, Carolyn Rainey, Terry Sutton, and Pat Willingham.

INTRODUCTION OF NEW SENATORS

Chair Lloyd welcomed the new Senators and the Student Government representatives.  Everyone introduced themselves.

ELECTION OF CHAIR ELECT

Chair Lloyd requested nominations for the position of Chair-Elect.  Senator Tikoo nominated Senator Cobb, Senator Dunavan nominated Senator Clayton, and Senator Hathaway nominated Senator Champine.  Each candidate briefly described his goals for the Senate.  Senator Champine was elected as the Chair Elect.

ELECTION OF MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE

Ballots were distributed for election of Senators to serve on the Membership Committee.
The election results were as follows:

  Carolyn Rainey  College of Business
  Min Zou   College of Education
  Janice Chadha   College of Health & Human Services
  Pat Willingham  Kent Library
  Ronald Clayton  College of Liberal Arts
  Bruce Hathaway  College of Science & Mathematics
  Mack Wilson   School of Polytechnic Studies
The meeting was adjourned at 5:00 p.m.

The next meeting of the Faculty Senate will be Wednesday, May 12, 2004, at 3:00 p.m. in the Glenn Auditorium of the Robert A. Dempster building.
