Southeast Missouri State University

Needs

In order to achieve the above goals, the College of Science and Mathematics will require additional support. The funding levels for professional development, graduate student support and the library have remained essentially stagnant for more than ten years. The following is a list of items that the college will be unable to provide without additional assistance.
  • Increase the number of tenure-track and graduate faculty to support student growth in computer science, graduate programs, the University and the emphasis on experiential learning.
  • Increase salaries to attract and retain high-quality faculty members.
  • Expand start-up funding for new faculty.
  • Increase faculty professional development funds.
  • Increase funding for library acquisitions.
  • Increase financial support for maintenance and upgrade of essential equipment for research and teaching.
  • Update faculty/staff computing hardware/software.
  • Increase financial support for graduate students.
  • Increase the number of graduate assistantships.
  • Increase the number and value of scholarships.
  • Increase the number of internships, independent study and intensive field courses.
  • Increase funding for departmental learning centers.
  • Provide all classrooms with appropriate tech packages.
  • Provide outdoor study benches and tables.
  • Provide student study lounge.
  • Provide all faculty/staff with adequate office, lab, research and classroom space.
  • Expand into Brandt Hall.
  • Renovate Brandt, Johnson and Magill Halls.
