Interview Tips

You have submitted your resume and have been contacted by an organization for an interview. What you do to prepare for an interview is just as important as what you do in the interview. Below are a few tips:

Prepare for the Interview
  • Make an appointment with your career advisor to discuss the interview process
  • Visit websites and social media pages to learn as much as possible about the organization
  • Develop your elevator speech, to answer the question, "tell me about yourself."
  • Know what to wear in order to dress professionally
  • Have your resume ready to take with you
  • Know the place of interview / directions to the location
  • Confirm the time and date of interview
Practice
  • Schedule a mock interview with Career Services
  • Anticipate questions and rehearse responses out loud
  • Review Interview Checklistand Sample Questions in order to examine your strengths, weaknesses, and goals and find examples of experience you will use
  • Know the position you are applying for
  • Know the interviewers name and title
  • Be ready to share the reason you want to work for this company
After The Interview
  • Send a Thank You note to each person with whom you interviewed. ( A handwritten note within 24 hours is best, however email is acceptable, keep it short and polite.)
